Dad was the Air Attaché attached to the US Embassy when we were in Saigon 1960-62.
He was in his prime and went on to fighter pilot instructor training in Valdosta, GA, then at Randolph AFB, San Antonio, TX.
He celebrated his 93rd birthday on Summer Solstice 2014.
A month and a day later, on the anniversary of mom’s death, he took his final flight.
My condolences on this site as well.
Brooks…I’m sure you don’t remember me from those many years ago, but I remember you very well. So sorry to hear of your dad’s passing, and I wish the very best to you and your family during this sad time. So sorry for your loss.
Dear Brooks,
Seeing the picture of your father brought back so many memories with Holly and your family….I spent alot of time at the Toland house. My condolences to you and your family. I loved that you stated that he took his final flight…he is soaring somewhere. Candice
Brooks,
Sorry to hear of your fathers passing and hope that final flight took him on a great new journey.
Both my parents died in 2004 at the age of 92 and now reside in Arlington National Cemetery on a hillside overlooking DC. My dad, Col. Victor Matteson, was one of Kennedy’s first 500 advisers when he arrived in Saigon in 1960 and then we arrived in 1961. It was quite an experience for all of us and I so enjoyed knowing you.
Take care and hope to see you again soon at a reunion some day.
