THE QUEST: RUBY MEDINA WANTS TO CONNECT WITH FORMER CLASSMATES

Submitted by Ruby Medina (ACS)

I’m trying to connect with my fellow classmates from American Community School during our time in Saigon — 1961 to 1964. I’m looking for some of my 1st and 2nd grade classmates:

Lee Annette Smith

Kip Westmoreland

Thank you for your help.

I know I’m not who you are looking for but I was at the school for a year as a 2nd grader.
My picture is in the 1960 Gecko in Mrs. Coen’s class.
    Best Regards,

I’m in the 1961 Gecko not 1960! That’s what I get for typing on my cell phone late at night. I was in Mrs. Cohen’s Second Grade class. Please forgive me for getting the year wrong and for misspelling Mrs. Cohen’s name but I was so excited to see that someone else was in the lower elementary grades the same time I was there as a child.

Hi Ruby, Your brother posted on here in 2010. Gilbert, but I know we didn’t call him Gilbert. I found his post in 2015 and posted a reply, but never heard anything.
We used to play “war” in our compound and you lived there, too. He wrote that you all lived in “Gia Ding” but I don’t know where that is. I know we lived somewhere close to Tan Son Nhut airport and not downtown.
And my sister and I were at the theatre seeing Lady and the Tramp, as your brother wrote.
You and my sister Jani Klingenhagen might have been in the same class, but my Gecko is out in the garage. She was in the second grade.
It’s “Rip” not “Kip” Westmoreland. Rip and I were in the same class at the school and we often played with the Westmoreland kids. My sister found Margaret Westmoreland (she goes by “Maggie” now) on Facebook and she connected there with her.

I lived in the compound, JDP as it was called and next to the airport in 1964. I was in the 4th grade at the time and had three sisters. I was also involved in the Boy Scouts. The only name that I can recall is Ray C Smith, who was 1 of 7 children of a Seventh Day Adventist minister who lived behind us in the compound. Those were great times.
