Two Years and One Day Ago

On April 21, 2008 this Blog was officially launched. Yes, yesterday – April 21, 2010 – was the 2 year anniversary of our Blog. Wow! How the time just flew by … it seems like just yesterday that I clicked my mouse sending this blog live on the Internet. Where did the last 2 years go so dang fast!?!

As they say, when you are having fun – time flies – LOL

And, fun, fun, fun we’ve had on here.

I just spent the past couple hours reading through the Archives, starting with the first Post on our blog and coming forward – WOW!!! We sure have covered some ground over the past 2 years.

Also, we’ve been able to locate and reconnect (and stay connected) with many, many previously un-found Saigon Kids. Awesome!!

I was just scanning through the Stats for our blog. Geez, during the past 2 years I’ve made 351 Posts on the blog. That’s an average of one Post every 2 days. Wow! No wonder my fingers are stubs – LOL.

Other Posts Contributors are: Ken Yeager (36 Posts), Alice Ahlgren (15 Posts), Randy Seely (10 Posts), Bruce Thomas and George Baggett (3 Posts each), Harrison Shaffer, Frank Stoddard, Garr Novick, Kathy Connor, Mimi, Tom Cooper, (2 Posts each), Ellen Schaefer, Jay Oyler, Jenny, Mary-Anne Purvis, Mike Erickson, Peter Brownell, Brooks Toland (1 Post each).

Many, many thanks to those of you who have taken the time and effort to contribute Posts to our blog. I’m sure everyone appreciates your efforts as much as I do.

Now brace yourself for this next Stat – LOL – over the past 2 years all of us combined have left *1768* Comments on the blog – WOW!! A BIG THANK YOU to all of you who take the time to leave Comments on the blog – very much appreciate by everyone!

A very BIG Thank You to Bruce Thomas who so kindly took on the task of researching, writing and monitoring our America Community School Wikipedia article. Great job well done, Bruce!

Also, a special thank you to Roy, Frank and the other SKs who attended the 2009 Reunion in Saigon, and where kind enough to give the rest of us a daily update via pictures, Posts and Comments through the blog of the Reunion. And, a *Special* thank you to Mimi who jumped in with her Reunion commentaries to keep things rolling along, while I was busy, busy in the back ground receiving, editing and uploading, to the blog, the continuous stream of information coming in from the gang at the Reunion in Saigon. Through everyone’s combined efforts, those of us who were not able to attend the Reunion were able to experience the next best thing to actually being there – Awesome, it was – it was!!

Maybe by the time the 2012 Reunion in Saigon comes around, we’ll be able to do a *live video stream* direct from Saigon to the Blog – Now that would be awesome, wouldn’t it!?!

So, what’s ahead during the next year for the Blog, you ask? Well, many, many things – LOL. I have a growing list of over 200 things I have planned for the Blog, as time permits. And, at some point in the future (probably not this year, but maybe next year) I’m going to take the Blog – *on the road* – LOL. What a blast that could be!!

I hope everyone has enjoyed our Blog as much as I have enjoyed bring it to you these past 2 years.

Stay tuned Saigon Kids … the fun has only just begun.

Rock Onnnn … Saigon Kids 🙂

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Thanks Bob for all of your efforts on this blog. It has been great for expressing opinions, thoughts, and linking up with long lost folks. I encourage all to contribute, regardless of the subject, including 40 year old secrets…lol. Keep it up. Ken

Thanks again Bob. This blog and the website have made it possible for me to reconnect with friends from nearly 50 years ago that would never have been found. That seems to be the legacy of military BRATS, friends left in the dust of quick moves to the next assignment, with parents only focused on getting to the next location. I wouldn’t change being a BRAT for anything, but the lose of friends always brought sadness. For me Saigon was the defining point in my life and was the time that made me the person I am today. Thanks again for bringing us all together.

I agree with Sandy. This blog has been such fun. Having the opportunity to reconnect with my dear friend, Janet Bogardus, after 50 years, was one of my particular highlights this year. Being “found,” with the many efforts of the guys and Bob, is an honor. Saigon truly shaped my life and my view of the world. It also was a time of very close friendships that I have treasured for 5 decades. Glenn Parker and Bootsie McMain’s e-mails helped me get through a difficult time recently with the death of my mother, and I am so thrilled to have them back in my life. I look forward to Friday’s newsletter from Bob, and hope the 3rd year will bring more reconnections of Saigon Kids. Rock Onnnn, Bob. You have done a wonderful thing by bringing us together.
