This video is of Tom Staley’s daughter and her family viewing old 8mm films her father took while traveling.
Her father was CIA and worked for the State Department in the 1960’s in Africa, Europe and Viet Nam, among other places. This is a clip from 8mm home movies he took while in Vietnam.
One of the stories about the Marine statue is, the soldier in front is Vietnamese and the one behind is American. The Vietnamese say the American was hiding behind the Vietnamese soldier. The Americans said, no he isn’t hiding, he’s pushing the Vietnamese soldier to move forward and fight.
I recall that during the State Department orientation in Washington, D.C., prior to departing for Vietnam in 1959, my family was told the same story about not putting your arm out the car window if wearing a watch or jewelry. Funny thing is, I don’t remember anybody in Saigon ever actually having a watch stolen in this manner. Did you?!
What do you think is behind the fence with the razor in front of it (near the end of the video)? Leave your best guess in the Comments section below.

The last filming was of the President’s palace on cong Ly street that had the helicopter behind the fence. We lived across from the President’s palace so very familiar with the area.
I would agree with you. That was my thoughts also.
Bob

I AGREE WITH YOU ALL…………. THE PRESIDENTIAL PALACE. OUR HOUSE WAS JUST DOWN FROM THERE.
