Dear Bob,
Thank you for keeping us Saigon Kids together. Without you, we probably wouldn’t have found each other!
I am in Cambodia for 2.5 months. I taught English at a village an orphanage for six weeks, and now I am working for an NGO in Phnom Penh. Here are a few photos.

Maybe you’ll remember that I was supposed to volunteer in Hue from Jan-March. That never happened because of changes in work permit and business visa requirements. I spent over $3000 trying to make that trip happen but finally gave up because I could not get the work permit and visa resolved between Nov. 17, the date I received notice of new laws, and Dec. 27, the date of my scheduled flight. The NGO Hue Help said it probably would be after Feb 8 that everything would be sorted, due to Tet. I gave up and came to Cambodia in April instead. I am on an around-the-world ticket, and left the US in March for stops in London, Belgrade, Bahrain, Delhi, Bangkok, and now Phnom Penh. Future stops will be Manila, Kauai, LA, and finally Raleigh/Durham. I’ll begin settling in Durham on Aug 6 and then I will face the reality of retirement!
I will remain in Phnom Penh until July 16. Then I will fly to the Philippines for 10 days. And then, guess what?! Sarah Bush Rogers has invited me to stay with her while I am in Hawaii. When my plane lands in Honolulu on July 26, I will walk to a gate for my flight to Kauai. See? Without the Saigon Kids connection, thanks to you, I would not have been in touch with Sarah. Now we will have a three-day visit together. It’ll be great fun, and we’ll send photos.
Aloha,
Cathie
I envy you every inch of your travels. Now you need to plan your Africa trip.
Cathie,
What a wonderful journey and work experience in Cambodia. Lovely tribute from your students too. I was in Cambodia in 2009 with Miss Sarah as part of our trip to the Saigon Kids reunion. Saw the picture of you and Sarah on Facebook from Kauai and keep thinking a have to make a trip to Kauai again.
Take care and hope to see you at another reunion.
Ruth
